Rubio: US still expects response from Iran
The US is still expecting a response from Iran on the latest proposal for a peace plan on Friday, despite the attacks on targets in the Strait of Hormuz. This is what Secretary of State Marco Rubio said according to AFP.
Washington has given Tehran a proposal to extend the ceasefire during further talks to reach a final agreement.
– We expect a response from them sometime during the day [...] I hope it is a serious offer, I really do, says Rubio.
Iran has said that it is still “reviewing” the US proposal.
US: Stopped two oil tankers from breaking the blockade
The US has shelled and disabled two ships, stopping them from sailing into an Iranian port on Friday, the US military said according to Reuters.
According to the US, the ships were oil tankers sailing under the Iranian flag and trying to break the US blockade of Iranian ports, writes the Central Command Centcom in a post on X.
At the same time, the semi-state Iranian news agency Fars reports that Iranian forces and American ships have been clashing for about an hour.
Iran: We have boarded an oil tanker
Iran has boarded a large oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian reports.
The tanker has been seized by the Iranian military as it is considered to have disrupted oil traffic and "the interests of the Iranian nation," says a statement issued via the Tasnim news agency.
The ship is named Ocean Koi. A 228-meter-long crude oil tanker that recently changed its name from Ocean Koi to Jin Li has recently sailed in the Gulf of Oman just southeast of the Strait of Hormuz. This is shown by maritime traffic websites, but the ship's last published position was recorded during the night of Thursday.
