With the goal of preventing future pandemics, the United States is offering 50 countries, primarily in Asia and Africa, help to identify and deal with infectious diseases, AP reports. The support, which includes several billion dollars, will, among other things, go towards developing better testing, surveillance and preparedness for outbreaks.
"The strategy aims to protect people around the world and will make America stronger, safer and healthier," writes President Joe Biden in a statement.

New pandemic agreement is jeopardized – countries cannot agree
In order to deal with future pandemics faster, more efficiently and more fairly, the WHO aims to establish a new global pandemic agreement.
But four years after the corona pandemic broke out, the member states have still not managed to agree on one, AP writes. And at the end of May, the deadline expires.
- We now run a very high risk of missing this agreement, an anonymous negotiator told Politico earlier in April.
One of the contentious issues concerns the distribution of vaccines. Richer countries want it to be voluntary to share vaccines and medicines, while developing countries believe that it would make no difference compared to during the corona pandemic.
