Mike Johnson: Vote on support for Ukraine on Saturday
The US House of Representatives will vote on renewed military aid to, among other things, Ukraine on Saturday. This is what the Republican Speaker Mike Johnson says according to AFP.
- We are expected to vote on these proposals on Saturday evening, he says.
In early February, the Senate approved a package that would give Ukraine $60 billion in military aid. The package has drawn harsh criticism from conservative Republicans, including presidential candidate Donald Trump. After the criticism, Johnson has refused to call a vote and the support has been delayed several months.
What Johnson is now calling for a vote on are four separate packages of support for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan as well as money for "measures to confront Russia, China and Iran", writes Reuters.

Stoltenberg adds that the alliance's defense ministers are called for an extraordinary meeting to discuss support for Ukraine on Friday. Ukrainian President Zelenskyi will also attend.
The statement comes after a meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Both Denmark and Germany have recently promised to send more ammunition to Ukraine.
