One step closer to green light for support package - vote in the House of Representatives today
The US House of Representatives has come one step closer to approving the $95 billion military aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
In a so-called procedural vote on Friday, 316 voted for and 94 against. The Wall Street Journal describes it as "a major hurdle" has been cleared ahead of the official vote later today.
The support package has received criticism from, above all, conservative Republicans in the United States. At the same time, experts have warned that Russia could eventually win the war in Ukraine if the US does not approve new military aid to the country.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, tells the Wall Street Journal that the package on the table is "the best we can get under these circumstances."

Expert: Ukraine may lose the war if the US aid package does not go through
What the first US military aid package since October will contain or how big it will be has not yet been decided. But if the House of Representatives approves the package during the night to Sunday, it should quickly be in place in Ukraine. Two Pentagon sources told Politico.
The sources say that they are now assessing which weapons can be most quickly transported to Ukraine, and through the US bureaucracy. Some weapons are already in Europe and these could reach Ukraine in a few days.
Ukraine has repeatedly warned that their ammunition shortage is so severe that it is difficult to defend themselves.
- If the situation is as critical for Ukraine as it sounds, they may well lose the war if the support package does not go through, says Ilmari Käihkö, senior lecturer in military science at the Norwegian Defense University, to TV4.
