Many killed in large-scale attack on hospitals in Sudan
At least 67 people have been killed in a major drone attack on one of the last functioning hospitals in al-Fashir in southwestern Sudan, AFP reports. The attack was carried out on Friday and many injured are still being treated.
A source told the news agency that the emergency department at the hospital was destroyed. It is still unclear whether government forces or the paramilitary RSF are behind the attack.
The parties have been at war with each other since April 2023. The RSF controls almost the entire Darfur region, where al-Fashir is located. Since May 2024, the RSF has tried to take al-Fashir without success.
During the war, ambulances and hospitals have been subjected to several attacks.
Lammy after the visit: “The most horrible thing I have seen”
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has visited Chad, where many people from Sudan are fleeing the ongoing civil war between government forces and the paramilitary RSF.
– It is one of the most horrible things I have ever heard and seen in my life, he tells the British BBC.
Lammy was on site at the border between the countries and spoke to children and women who have fled. Many testify to murder, mutilation and rape in the war-torn country.
An aid worker the channel spoke to says that women sometimes have had to choose which children to flee the country with because they are unable to carry them all.
