USA: The Gulf of Mexico is now the American Gulf
The US Department of the Interior confirms that the Gulf of Mexico is now called the American Gulf. This after the new US President Donald Trump promised that the name change will take effect.
"The American Gulf, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico, is one of the most important assets in the history of the nation," says a press release from the department.
The same statement also states that the name change of North America's highest mountain has taken effect. The mountain that was previously called Denali is now called McKinley. The mountain was called McKinley between 1917 and 2015 before Barack Obama changed the name.

Trump threatens to close down the emergency management agency
The new US president wants to overhaul the US emergency management agency FEMA and threatens to close down the agency entirely. Donald Trump was asked on Friday about the US disaster relief effort coordinated by FEMA.
– I honestly think FEMA is not good, he said, according to NBC News.
The president is in North Carolina, a state that was hit hard by the deadly Hurricane Helene last fall. He criticized FEMA's efforts during and after the hurricane and suggested that emergency aid for similar disasters should instead be on his administration's desk.
– They have been very slow. I don't know why it has been so bad. This is one of the worst things I have seen, he said.
Trump withdraws Anthony Fauci's bodyguard protection
Donald Trump has decided to withdraw the bodyguard protection of former infection control chief Anthony Fauci, CNN and Reuters report. The protection was reportedly withdrawn on Thursday.
Fauci is still receiving threats because of his prominent role during the pandemic. Previously, his bodyguard protection was paid for by the US agency NIH.
“He can hire his own protection,” Donald Trump said on Friday.
Since becoming president, Trump has also removed the personal protections of former national security adviser John Bolton and former secretary of state Mike Pompeo. According to CNN, the president’s decision is part of a “revenge campaign” against former officials in his administration.
