Russia claims to have taken the village - Germany sends Patriot
Russia says on Saturday it has taken control of a village near the industrial city of Avdijivka in eastern Ukraine, reports AFP. Ukraine has not confirmed the information. However, the country's commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskij stated earlier in the day that the situation at the front "deteriorated significantly" in recent days.
During Saturday, Germany also announced that the country will send a third copy of the American-made Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. During the week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed for the Patriot system in particular, after extensive Russian drone and robot attacks caused major damage to Ukrainian infrastructure.

Trump opens for continued Ukraine support in the form of loans
Donald Trump is open to the possibility that the United States can continue to help Ukraine financially in the war against Russia, if it takes place "in the form of loans instead of gifts", reports The Hill.
- But what is more important to me is that Europe tightens up and gives more money. It needs to be smoothed out. "If it's not evened out, I'm going to be upset because they're affected a lot more than we are," Trump said during an appearance with House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Trump has long expressed skepticism about the US supporting Ukraine. A major US aid package is currently stuck in Congress after Republicans opposed it.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defense: Russian forces can break through
Ukraine's commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi says the situation on the eastern front has "deteriorated significantly" and that Russia has increased its attacks after the Russian presidential election.
- The enemy is actively attacking our positions in Lyman and Bachmut with assault groups supported by armored vehicles. In Provosk, they are trying to break through our lines with dozens of tanks and armored personnel carriers, he said during a press conference, according to AFP.
Syrsky further says that Russia's troops have better weapons, and that the Ukrainian troops in many cases lack sufficient training on the weapons they have.
