Trump to contact Kim Jong-Un: "A smart guy"
Donald Trump will contact North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un to start new talks, the newly elected president announced in an interview with Fox News last night.
- He liked me and I got along with him. He's not a religious fanatic. He happens to be a smart guy, Trump said.
The last time Trump was president, he made history by visiting North Korea and meeting Kim. But this time it may be more difficult, writes the New York Times. North Korea has expanded its missile program and is also strengthened by closer cooperation with Russia.
According to the newspaper, there is now concern in South Korea that Trump could sign an agreement to lift restrictions in exchange for North Korea ending its tests of long-range missiles - but without giving up all its nuclear weapons.
Analysis: Trump Takes Over Our Brains with His Ego
Donald Trump has made a powerful entrance into the White House and pundits are now trying to analyze the past week, including from a psychological perspective
Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal believes that despite several risky decisions – such as pardoning people from the events of January 6 – Trump is showing a more controlled leadership style and treats reporters with calm rather than insults. She believes that Trump is at the top of his "power game" and likens him to a "neurological imperialist".
"He storms in and stops [...] Donald Trump will not be happy until he has burned himself into the nation's corneas", she writes.
At the same time, David Brooks of the New York Times criticizes Trump's references to 19th century populism in the United States as doomed to failure.
"We crawl under his ego, which interestingly enough makes up 87 percent of his nervous tissue; we dig under the nucleus accumbens, the region of the brain responsible for golf cheating [...] deep down in the core of the limbic system, we find something strange - my history textbook.”

Only the US flag allowed at US consulates
Donald Trump's administration is banning flags other than the US from being flown at US consulates, both abroad and in the US. The Guardian writes.
The announcement is another step in the new president's effort to dismantle the government programs "DEI", which stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion - or diversity, justice and inclusion.
The Guardian writes that it is a sharp contrast to the Biden administration when both Pride and Black Lives Matter flags could be flown outside US missions abroad.

Dissatisfaction with Musk is growing in the White House: "Furious"
Close allies of Trump and people within the White House are "furious" against Elon Musk. They believe he is exploiting his closeness to the president, several anonymous sources told Politico.
The reason is that Musk publicly attacked Trump's new AI initiative Stargate, worth $500 billion.
"They don't actually have the money," Musk wrote on X.
Trump himself called Stargate "monumental" and "amazing" just the day before.
- The problem is that the president has no hold on him. And Elon absolutely gives a shit about everything, says a source.

WHO after Trump's decision: "The situation is more urgent"
The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom, states that the organization needs to cut its costs, Reuters reports.
The reason is Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from the WHO.
"This decision has made our financial situation more urgent," says Tedros Adhanom in a message to his employees, which Reuters has seen.
Adhanom also writes that the WHO now needs to review its various health programs and choose which ones to prioritize. The WHO will also need to cut back on its travel expenses and stop all recruitment.
The US contributed $1.3 billion to the WHO in 2022 and 2023, according to Bloomberg.

US: Hundreds of migrants have been arrested and deported
The US has arrested 538 migrants and deported hundreds who were in the country illegally. This is what White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote in a post on X.
"The largest mass deportation ever is underway," she writes on the platform.
Trump was elected on the promise of carrying out mass deportations of illegal immigrants. Since taking office as the new president on Monday, he has declared a national emergency and sent around 1,500 soldiers to the border with Mexico.
According to Leavitt, several hundred have been deported via military aircraft.
