Hamas leader travels to Turkey to meet Erdogan

The terrorist-branded Hamas leader Ismail Haniya will travel to Turkey to meet the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, writes AFP.

- The leader of the Palestinian cause will be my guest this weekend, says Erdogan.

The last time Haniya and Erdogan met was in July last year when Erdogan invited both Haniya and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to the presidential palace in Ankara.

According to the television channel NTV, the meeting will take place on Saturday in the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul. It is not clear what the parties are expected to talk about.

Sources: UN to vote on Palestine's membership

The UN Security Council is to vote on Palestine's application to become a full member of the UN. The vote will take place tomorrow, Thursday, several diplomatic sources told AFP.

Palestine resumed its membership application from 2011 in early April.

In order to approve a new member, two-thirds of the UN member states must vote yes. However, such a vote can only take place if the Security Council gives its recommendation.

TT writes that the proposal is not expected to go through because Israel's ally the United States is said to veto it.
