Political situation in the UK

Starmer Hits Back at Musk: “Spreading Lies”

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer today responded to criticism that tech billionaire Elon Musk has directed at him and the British government. Without mentioning Musk by name, Starmer accused politicians and activists of “spreading lies and disinformation”.

Musk has accused the British leader of being “complicit in the rape of Britain” and claimed that in his previous role in the prosecution service he failed to prosecute “rape gangs”.

– Those who spread lies and disinformation on the right and left are not interested in the victims, they are only interested in themselves, he said in a speech according to British media.

Norwegian Prime Minister on Musk's statement: "Worrying"

After Elon Musk had things to say about the domestic political situations in the UK and Germany, among others, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre is now roaring.

- I think it is worrying that a man with enormous access to social media and large financial resources is interfering in the affairs of other countries, he says in the NRK program Politisk Kvarter.

In the program, the Prime Minister was asked if he is worried about Musk interfering in Norwegian politics. Jonas Gahr Støre hopes that the country's politicians will agree and distance themselves if it were to become a reality.

Analysis: Musk can stop Starmer's charm attempt

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer did not get the start to 2025 that he had hoped for. This is what CNN's Rob Picheta writes in an analysis after tech billionaire Elon Musk attacked Starmer with angry posts on X for several days.

The background is a scandal that took place in the UK over ten years ago, in which, among other things, police officers were accused of failing to stop rapes out of fear of being labeled racist. Musk claims that Starmer failed to stop "gang rapes" during his time in the prosecution service and demanded that he resign.

This could cause problems for Starmer, who hopes to charm Donald Trump. So far, Starmer has not "taken the bait" but Musk cannot be completely ignored, says Picheta.

In an analytical text, The Independent writes that Elon Musk has emerged as one of Starmer's biggest challenges. Political scientist Chris Hopkins believes that he is in a difficult position.

He says that the majority of Britons do not share the narrative Musk spreads, but that Starmer cannot allow himself to be "bullied" by one of Trump's most important allies.

– Ignoring it and hoping it goes away doesn’t seem like a good strategy either.

J Oliver Conroy writes in The Guardian that Musk’s purchase of X has given him enormous power over public debate.

“Musk has used X as a platform to make aggressive interventions not only in US politics, but also in other countries.”
