Putin: "Ukraine crisis" could have been avoided

Vladimir Putin says that the "Ukraine crisis" could have been avoided if Donald Trump was president in 2022, several media outlets report. On Friday, the Russian president commented on Trump's statement that the war would never have broken out if he had ruled the United States at the time.

Putin also commented on the American president's statements that Russia must conclude an agreement with Ukraine now. The Russian president claims that the Kremlin is ready to negotiate and cooperate with Trump, but accuses Volodymyr Zelenskyj of putting obstacles in the way of talks.

Vladimir Putin also took the opportunity to praise Trump by calling him a "smart" and "pragmatic" person.

Putin has previously stated that Russia wants to negotiate, but has made several tough demands on Ukraine.

Israel: Will not leave Lebanon on Sunday - despite agreement

Israel's military will not leave Lebanon this weekend. This is stated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration, several media outlets report.

The ceasefire agreement, which came into effect at the end of November, stipulates that Israel will be out of Lebanon within 60 days. In return, Hezbollah is to withdraw from all areas south of the Litani River to be replaced by Lebanese troops.

According to Benjamin Netanyahu, the Lebanese state has not fulfilled its part of the agreement.

“Since the ceasefire agreement has not yet been fully implemented by the Lebanese state, the gradual withdrawal process will continue in full coordination with the United States,” a statement said.

As recently as yesterday, Hezbollah warned Israel that its soldiers must be out of the country by Sunday.
