Climate Threat Global Challenges

New map shows thousands of hills under Antarctic ice

Scientists have produced the most detailed map yet of the landscape under Antarctic ice, reports the BBC. The map shows thousands of previously unknown hills and ridges.

Satellite data and models of glacier movements have been used to calculate what the land looks like under the ice.

- It's incredible, says glaciologist Robert Bingham at the University of Edinburgh.

The mapping can improve understanding of how the continent responds to climate change and the consequences of sea level rise.

The study is published in the scientific journal Science.

Daisies are already looking up in London in January

Early summer flowers have already started to look up in the UK. This is reported by SRVetenskapsradion, referring to a national plant inventory.

"My sister who lives up north has daffodils, it's absolutely incredible," says Londoner Stella Davis.

Daisies that normally bloom in March were already visible in central London in the middle of the day.

There is a likely connection to climate change and more detailed investigations are now being carried out.
