A heavy snowstorm is raging in the UK.

Tomorrow it will move into Sweden.

According to SMHI, major consequences are expected for both cars and public transport.

- You should think twice if you need to take to the roads these days, says meteorologist Linus Karlsson.

A low pressure from the British Isles is approaching Sweden. Tomorrow morning it will move in from the southwest and has caused SMHI to issue orange and yellow warnings for heavy snowfall combined with wind across central and southern Sweden.

It is expected to be difficult on the roads due to drifts, slippery conditions, poor visibility and sleet.

- You should think twice if you need to take to the roads these days. If you have an errand, you can try to get it done today, says Linus Karlsson, meteorologist at SMHI.

"Really slushy"

He urges road users who need to go out to adjust their speed to the road conditions.

- To the south, we are also seeing a transition from snowfall to rain on Monday. It will become really slushy on the roads as that transition occurs.

SMHI warns that important social functions such as snow removal and rescue services may have difficulty getting around in the coming days. There is also a risk of delays or cancellations in public transport.

- There is also a risk of power outages and disruptions in the telecommunications network where there are overhead lines during this period.

Runways closed

In recent days, northwest England has suffered from severe weather conditions.

Manchester and Liverpool airports have temporarily closed their runways due to snow on Sunday, Sky News reports.

Both airports say staff are working hard to clear the snow as quickly as possible.

"The safety of our passengers is our top priority, and we appreciate your patience during this time," Manchester Airport wrote in a statement.

PL match threatened

A yellow warning for heavy snowfall is in place until lunchtime on Sunday in Liverpool, including at Anfield football stadium where Liverpool and Manchester United will face each other in a Premier League match at 17:30 Swedish time.

According to the Liverpool Echo newspaper, Liverpool's security team will hold a meeting to discuss whether it is safe enough to carry out the match.

The snowstorm will also cause problems in Norway, where up to 40 centimeters of snow is expected to fall in the southern and eastern parts of the country in the coming days. Meteorologists have issued an orange warning for very heavy snowfall, with consequences for both car traffic and public transport as well as the electricity supply, writes VG.
