The Russian invasion. The outside world's response

France: Half a million Russians have been killed or injured

Half a million Russian citizens have been killed or injured since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. That assessment is made by French authorities, according to the country's Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné.

- Russia's military failure is obvious. We estimate that Russia lost 500,000 men, of which 150,000 have been killed, says Séjourné to the Russian independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta.

Russia withholds information on the number of dead and wounded. Britain has previously said it believes 450,000 Russians have been killed or injured.

Macron keeps the door open to sending troops

French President Emmanuel Macron continues to keep the door open to sending French soldiers to the Ukraine war.

Earlier this year, Macron attracted a lot of attention when he refused to rule out sending French troops to the front. The statement caused many NATO countries, above all Germany, to screw up.

In an interview with The Economist, Macron is asked if he stands by his opinion.

- Absolutely. I am not ruling anything out, because we have an opponent who is not ruling anything out.

The French president says he wants to give his allies a "wake-up call".

- These are fundamental issues for Europe's security and military credibility. If Russia decides to go even further, we will have to ask ourselves this question.

Cameron: Ukraine has the right to strike targets in Russia

Ukraine decides for itself how to use weapons donated by Britain. This is what British Foreign Minister David Cameron says during a visit to Kyiv, according to several media.

Britain has, among other things, sent the long-range Storm Shadow robot and, according to Cameron, there is no condition that British weapons may not be used against Russian territory.

- Russia has launched an attack against Ukraine and Ukraine has the right to strike back against Russia, he says according to Sky News.

According to information, the US has called on Kyiv to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries, writes the BBC.
