The ICC prosecutor: We have the eyes of the whole world on us
International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan knew he was stirring a hornet's nest when he sought an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But he considers himself to have no choice, he says in an interview with the Sunday Times.
The court has the eyes of the whole world on it, says Khan. In Africa, Asia and Latin America, the war in Gaza is closely followed. Are the world's most powerful countries ready to stand by their own rhetoric about a legal order and a rule-based system?
- It boils down to this question: Do we want to live in a world where the law is applied equally to everyone or a world where our alliances make us close our eyes? he says.

Masked soldier calls for mutiny - investigated by IDF
The
Israeli army IDF is launching an investigation after a video of a
masked and armed soldier calling for mutiny was spread on social media,
Israeli media write.
In the video, the reservist threatens to
disobey orders if the government abandons its goal of "total victory"
against Hamas. He also calls for the resignation of Defense Minister
Yoav Gallant and says the soldiers will only listen to Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu.
- We will stay here until the end, says the soldier.
In
addition to the investigation, commanders must immediately speak with
all soldiers "given the seriousness of the incident," the IDF said. The
Times of Israel describes the IDF's handling as a shift as similar
violations have previously been allowed to pass.

Zelenskyy: Russians are gathering new troops near our border
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invites US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping to come to the peace conference in Switzerland in June.
- Please show your leadership and promote peace. Real peace and not just a temporary break between attacks, Zelenskyy said in a video speech published on Sunday.
In the video, Zelenskyi stands in the rubble of the book publishing house in Kharkiv that was bombed by Russia on Thursday. Seven publishing employees were killed in the attack. The former million-strong city of Kharkiv is plagued by Russian attacks both day and night.
According to Zelensky, Russia is preparing another attack on northern Ukraine.
- Russia is getting ready for an offensive nine miles northwest of here - they are massing troops near our border. Whoever does that does not want peace.

The election in Great Britain
Sunak's move to save the crisis campaign: Lumpen
Reintroduce
conscription. That is British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's promise
before the election in July, British media write on Sunday.
The
proposal means that all British 18-year-olds must do conscription or
civilian duty. The latter means a compulsion to work in socially
important activities one weekend a month for a year.
In a
statement quoted by The Independent, Sunak says he hopes the proposal
will lead to young people being filled with a "British spirit".
Sunak's Tory party has lousy poll numbers and looks set for a major defeat against Labor in the election.

The Storming of the Capitol
HD referee's wife about the flag: Was an emergency
Outside the mansion of one of America's most powerful judges, a flag flew that has become a symbol of Donald Trump's conspiracy theories. But according to High Court Judge Samuel Alito's wife Martha-Ann Alito, it was all about a neighborhood dispute,
Just over a week ago, the New York Times revealed that an upside-down American flag was flying in the Alito couple's garden shortly after the storming of the Capitol. Before that, it had become the symbol of the movement that claims that Donald Trump actually won the presidential election.
The Washington Post received a tip about the flag at the time and went out to the couple's home. Martha-Ann Alito then pointed out that the US military uses the upside-down flag as a distress signal and that she did it for the same reason because of a dispute with neighbors.
Since it appeared to be her and not Samuel Alito who raised the flag, the Washington Post chose not to report on the incident at the time.
