One month until the election - then the junta extends its mandate
Burkina Faso's military rule is extended for five years, writes AFP.
The military junta that took power in a coup in 2022 will have its mandate extended following a "national dialogue process" held over the weekend.
According to The Heritage Times, the military government states that their goal is for the nation to be able to return to civilian rule in the future. An earlier dialogue stipulated that the junta would hand over power after general elections by July 1 this year.

The violence in Myanmar
Rohingya are forced to fight each other - by both sides
Both Myanmar's military junta and the Arakanese Army (AA) rebel group use forcibly recruited Rohingya in fighting each other. Human rights organizations and local representatives of the ethnic group told the South China Morning Post.
- The result is a conflict where forcibly recruited Rohingya from the military junta are pitted against forcibly recruited Rohingya from AA, says human rights activist Htway Lin from Cox Bazar in Bangladesh.
According to the newspaper, the city's refugee camps have become recruitment pools for the two warring parties – often against the express will of the warring parties.
- I was kidnapped by rebels two weeks ago. My wife and her brothers paid them a bribe of 130,000 taka [12,000 sec] and after that I was released, a 32-year-old refugee told the newspaper.

The Russian InvasionThe Battles
Ukraine's soldiers get time off when targets are destroyed
Five days off to sink a warship, three days to knock out a tank but only one day off for a short-range drone. That's roughly how the new reward system that was hammered out for Ukraine's soldiers this week works. Something that DN reports on.
The government has published a list with a total of 17 targets that result in leave.
Military analyst Jörgen Elfving tells the newspaper that there is a Russian version of the system which means that the country's soldiers are paid for the targets they destroy. That Ukraine has introduced the system does not surprise him.
- It is a rather desperate way to increase motivation, he says.
