A remote village in central Nigeria has been attacked by gunmen this weekend. Eight villagers were murdered and around 150 kidnapped, AFP reports.
- They arrived on about 100 motorcycles and there were three men on each. No help arrived during the three hours they were in the village, says local politician Aminu Najume.
Mass kidnappings are common in the northern and central parts of Nigeria. This weekend's attack was carried out by armed criminals known locally as bandits.

After bloody attacks in central Nigeria over the weekend, hundreds of people have fled their homes, Reuters reports. During an attack on a village on Friday, around ten people were murdered and around 150 kidnapped.
A year ago, President Bola Tinubu took office with a promise to end the attacks. But the attacks have not stopped and are now part of everyday life in Nigeria's remote villages, writes the news agency.
Maryam Abubakar lives in the attacked village but escaped unharmed by hiding in a toilet.
