The size of the volcanic eruption unclear: "Just started"
It is still unclear how serious the effects of the volcanic eruption that began in Iceland earlier today will have, local media reports.
According to the public service channel Rúv, there is still no indication that air traffic will be affected. However, the community of Grindavík, just like in several previous outbreaks this year, may be threatened.
Currently, lava is pouring out of a 2.5 kilometer long fissure. The lava is said not to be moving in the direction of Grindavík at the moment, but according to the authorities the situation could change quickly.
- It has only just begun, says Benedikt Ófeigsson at Iceland's Meteorological Institute to the channel.
