Was going to save his rabbit from the earthquake - then the house collapsed
In Hualien, the city closest to the center of the Taiwanese earthquake, around 70 people are believed to be stuck in the rubble. Several people have died and up to 900 have been injured, TT reports.
A woman who first managed to escape the quake must have then returned to save her rabbit, writes the site Focus Taiwan. 15 seconds later, parts of the construction collapsed and she was trapped inside.
- It shook violently. The paintings on my walls, my television and my bar cabinet fell to the floor, says a man to the television channel SET TV.

The chip giant is evacuating several factories after the earthquake
The world's largest chip manufacturer TSMC has evacuated several factories after the strongest earthquake in Taiwan in 25 years, several media reports.
According to Reuters, most of the company's factories are located on the opposite coast from the epicenter. But the facilities are full of fragile equipment critical to making chips for big companies like Nvidia and Apple.
Bloomberg writes that Taiwan accounts for more than half of the global manufacturing of notebook computers, motherboards and network devices. Any damage could therefore have major consequences for global supply chains.
