The EU election The electoral movement in Europe
Macron to Europeans: "Wake up - a collapse is near"
Europe is in three existential crises at the same time, according to French President Emmanuel Macron: An economic crisis, a security crisis and a democracy crisis.
In an interview with The Economist, the president warns that "things can fall apart very quickly" if Russia emerges victorious from the war in Ukraine and if the European right-wing nationalists gain ground in the EU elections.
Macron sees that the far-right's criticism has led to the EU's gains and successes being overshadowed, and that there is now "a spirit of defeat" in the Union.
- So I say to the Europeans: Wake up. Wake! They are secret Brexiteers. It's the same lies. In the end, it's the same result. And make no mistake, if you entrust the keys to people who think as they do, Europe will never become a great power, says Macron.
